| Current forest management in the study region is unsustainable, due to increased user-pressure, administrative inadequacies and silvicultural practices deficient to meet prevailing social, economic and environmental expectations. This study will focus on developing silvicultural approaches and tools that meet local needs and internationally defined sustainability criteria and indicators (C&I). A socio-economic and environmental context analysis will provide the basis for the C&I framework and to develop verifiers to assess sustainability. They will be translated into silvicultural intervention and management tools. Dissemination in the form of applicable technological packages represents an integer part of the project. |
