|Plague and other vector born diseases is a large communal and economic problem of the world. The project focuses on the plague of Central Asia as a model system. Extensive statistics is available throughout Kazakhstan and neighbouring countries from the latter part of the 1940s to the early 90s. Seasonal data exist for the host (rodents) and the vector (fleas); and the rate of infestation of the components of the system. Detailed data exists for 1975-98. A substantial amount of the data is computerized; the rest will be as an integrated part of the project. These data represent an ideal basis for the understanding and development of prognostic models for the Central Asia plague system and in a more general context; the obtained results will be of profound value to the health condition in the countries exposed to plagues; in addition, they will provide a unique model system for similar epidemiological systems throughout the world.
